Pinnawala
This is the most popular attraction in Pinnawala, located in the Sabaragamuwa Province. The orphanage was established in 1975 to provide care and protection to orphaned and injured elephants.
How to reach
From Colombo: Pinnawala is about 90 kilometers east of Colombo. It’s a 2.5-hour drive.
By Bus: Regular buses run from Colombo and Kandy.
By Train: You can take a train to Rambukkana station, which is close to Pinnawala.

Elephant Feeding
Visitors can watch or participate in bottle-feeding baby elephants.

Elephant Bathing
A must-see is the elephants bathing in the nearby river (Ma Oya). It’s an iconic moment and a great opportunity for photography.

Pinnawala Zoo
Adjacent to the elephant orphanage is a small zoological garden where you can see various other animals, including local and exotic species.
